I have spoken about entertainment on shore, but we also have had some great entertainment from visiting artists on board. One was Tomy Temmersen, an incredible zither player., who played a range of delightful melodies for us after our visit to Rudesheim.
The next morning we had our unforgettable ‘German lesson’ with ‘Prof. Dr. Dr. Herbert Alexander’, the very German ‘professor' who would not tolerate any nonsense at all. He had us in stitches! And it is amazing how much German we retained.
Most of us them went on our coaches to Freudenberg for a special ‘Oktoberfest’ (in June!) held just for our passengers in a specially decorated hall. This was a really fabulous luncheon with free-flowing beer and plenty of hearty food, including sausages and apple strudel. There was music, dancing, costumes, comedy - everything to make a really fun time. Even yours truly got dragged into the congo line and the chicken dance, if you can begin to imagine that! As I have said before, Bavarians certainly know how to have fun! So did the passengers.
On the way to the hall, by the way, was the dark forest which apparently inspired the fairy tales of the Grimm brothers.
What a great day, which ended with a tour of Wertheim. I will talk about that in my next post.
