Budapest at Night

Sadly tonight was our last night of our river cruise. We are in Budapest now and our last activity together in this beautiful city was so unforgettable I would like to share that with you in this post. I will catch up on other parts of the voyage over the next couple of days, which I am spending in Budapest.

We already had a brilliant day in Budapest, but as the sun was setting this evening we left our mooring and sailed north along the Danube, then turned back to enter the city at night with all the special majestic buildings and many bridges along the river lit up. It was like fairyland! Imagine sitting on the top deck, cruising in a balmy breeze in ‘fairyland’ accompanied by beautiful music. What a wonderful experience! And there were lots of hugs as people said au revoir or goodbye to the friends they made on the voyage.

I was very lucky to have made some lovely new friends too. It is hard to make new friends then say goodbye. I do hope they will keep in touch.

We set off at sunset.

It was most unusual to see brilliant sunsets along the river. See the vapour trail from a jet amongst the clouds - I assume this was part of a NATO exercise or training. I have seen this on an almost daily basis wherever I have been in Europe.

On the side of this stadium, which is still being finished, it said it was for the FIFA world cup this year.

Approaching the bridge in front of the stunning Parliament House building.

The other end of the bridge. There were many bridges across the river.

Parliament House, which was modelled on the British parliament building.

The palace close up.

The palace as we saw it.

An unknown building.
