Tuscany and San Gimignano

One of the most delightful trips we have had thus far is a visit to picturesque Tuscany, one of the most well-known of the food bowls of Italy, and the charming little town of San Gimignano. This was a trip we did out of Florence whilst we were there.

On the way to this township, the views of all the vineyards and many other acres in which other foods are grown, all in neat parcels located up and down the gently rolling hills, were just breathtaking. (Apparently their layout and acreage are all carefully planned by the relevant authorities.) The township, which is surrounded by very old thick walls, was simply a wonderful treasure which was a delight to explore. Amongst the many enticing little shops was a famous gelato shop that has won many awards, including ‘best gelato in the world’. The owner stands outside and greets everyone in the continuous long line of customers. The gelato I had was simply delicious! And I have never seen so many flavours to choose from.

What a great day! And what a fascinating place.

The view down the valley from the entrance to San Gimignano.

The wall surrounding the village.

A ceramics shop along the narrow path through the village to the square.

A toy shop. Italians are very proud of the fact that the story of Pinocchio was written by an Italian.

In the village square.

Just some of the gelato flavours available in the well-known shop.
