Pompeii Part 3 - even more photos

Here are the remaining photos. For those who are following my blog regularly, I do apologise for the delay - the WiFi on the ship has been playing up and going very, very slowly. I have spent hours trying to get this going. Finally, a 4.00 am attempt when there is less demand on WiFi has done the trick. Back to bed now - today I have a full day on the island of Rhodes. My next post will be about the Isle of Capri.

Outside the front of the site.

I am not sure what this place was, but it was next to the amphitheatre and was obviously used for some kind of gathering.

Another view of the same place.

The amphitheatre. It was quite small but there may well have been one or more more amphitheatres in the area that is still uncovered.

A row of shops. Notice the road and footpath.

A bakery with an outdoor oven in the row of shops.

This was probably a temple. We were caught by a huge dust storm in here, so did not take more photos of this site.

This is all that remains of the villa of an obviously wealthy family. Notice the mosaic floor.

This was the only mosaic floor on the site that has been uncovered so far.

This appears to have been a forum, next to a government building.

More of the forum.

A huge statue overlooking the site. Unfortunately, as might be expected, it was damaged, but still very impressive and rather beautiful.

The face of the statue. The area in front of the statue was inaccessible.

Our last view as we exited the site.
