One of the drawbacks of ocean cruising compared with river cruising, in my opinion, is the constant pressure to “buy, buy, buy”!
Buy different kinds of drink packages, or specialty dining packages, or an internet package, or a beauty treatment package, or photo packages, or shore excursions, or a real cup of coffee or a drink at a bar, or a massage, or a hairdo, or perfumes, or a special watch, or jewellery, or an ice-cream, . . . the list goes on and on. And this push to buy, all charged to your room key (in American dollars), goes on all around the ship. But nowhere is it more evident than the shopping ‘mall’ down the centre of the ship.
Tonight I trotted along there when the evening lights were on, and music blaring, all seducing you into the mall and to buy. The ‘pub’ has an entrance down into the casino, with its flashing lights and lure of the possibility of winning money.
Take a walk with me through the mall and its glass elevators and see what I mean.
